Abstract

Rain attenuation significantly impacts earth-space telecommunication links, particularly at frequencies above 10 GHz. This survey comprehensively reviews rain fade prediction models for satellite communication systems, including ITU-R recommendations, regional models, and machine learning-based approaches. The study compares model performance across different climatic regions and provides guidance for selecting appropriate models for system design and link budget calculations.
